Church Hurt

I’m deeply sorry if you have experienced church hurt, or if someone close to you has. It is heartbreaking when something meant to be sacred, beautiful, and healing becomes a source of pain, especially at the hands of those who profess faith. So, on behalf of broken people who have knowingly or unknowingly hurt you under the banner of Christianity, I am deeply sorry. My heart hurts for you.

I know a handful of people with the take: “If that person is a Christian, I am not interested in Christianity,” because of a repulsion to hypocrisy, hurtful actions, etc. And I understand. Not fully to the extent of your experience because I am not you, but I understand.

I pray that we can break and separate the character of God from the flaws of people. That the missteps of others wouldn’t keep us from seeking the heart of Jesus.

In the Christian faith, we are called to community. We need one another: mentors, role models, spiritual friends. These relationships are vital for growth. But remember: even the best leaders are still human and still fallible, still capable of sin. Keep Jesus at the center. He alone is perfect, and he will never fail you. And as you draw closer to him, He will restore and increase your faith, heal your hurt, and lovingly guide your path.
