The Artist

Oh, Lord, you are the artist. You are the artist of the universe, placing the clouds in the sky, the oxygen in the air, the planets in the right places, the dainty leaves that fall as autumn comes off of the sturdy trees with a firm foundation and rooting. You are the alpha and the omega, everything in between, and you reflect the beauty of your character in the way our world is created and shaped. There are the high mountaintops, that when we look from them we are able to see the intricacies of the valleys. There are things we are not even able to understand the beauty of, things we will never see such as the cosmos in the universe that are so far away we can only imagine the wonder and awe experienced from looking at yet another piece of Your creation. I see Your artistry in the way you delicately place wildflowers on the side of the road. I see it in the way You allow creatures’ bodies to work so intricately, down to the atom, so that there may be life on an Earth that is also crafted by your hand.

But Lord, You are not just an artist in the way that You create the world, in the concrete. You are also an artist of the abstract. Of our opportunities and circumstances. You so intricately orchestrate people, places, experiences, talents, and so much more into an order that falls into Your divine plan here on Earth with the lens of eternity. You are the artist. And You call us, Your sons and daughters, to be the tools. To be the brushes. In many cases, we are not supposed to know the next brushstroke that will be made; we are simply supposed to trust in the Artist that You are, You know the end piece. And to those on the outside, watching the artistry occur, it can and will be and is supposed to be all over the place. You want there to be a mystery about how You master the arts; if anyone could understand every move You made, there would be no need for You to be the artist.

So I trust in You, Lord, as the Artist of my life. I admire Your works that I deem complete, and I admire the process of the works You are still creating. Our world depends on a fast-paced, quick, efficient timing. You run on timing with eternity in mind. I will wait passionately for Your works to come into the light. I trust You, The Artist.
